How to review interior material samples

Review interior material samples for colour, texture, maintenance and suitability. Record approved finishes before procurement and installation.

View samples together

A digital image is useful for direction, but it cannot fully communicate texture, sheen or scale. Review physical samples of the main finishes together. Look at the relationships between flooring, joinery, paint, upholstery and hardware rather than approving each in isolation.

Consider use and upkeep

Discuss expected footfall, cleaning routines and the conditions in each area. Ask suppliers for the relevant product information and maintenance instructions. Confirm suitability for the intended application before approving a finish.

Record the approved choice

Keep a record of the product, colour, finish and approved sample. Where the detail is important, agree a sample installation or mock-up before repeating it across the project. Confirm substitutions through the same approval process.
